Dear Editor-in-Chief:
My name is Tanner Elkins; I am a sophomore at Early College
High School in Myrtle Beach.
I am writing this letter to address the effects of
Radiation.
Radiation is used to treat cancer for all types of people.
When this treatment is used on children, they can have negative effects after
treatment on a child’s brain. In school for example, their IQ can significantly
drop from their first four treatments. They should find an alternative for
children’s treatments that will only kill the cancer cells and not have
negative later effects like on the brain.
Many doctors who use this may think its fine to use and it
helped many children to become cancer free. St.
Jude even noticed that when they use radiation on children, it caused their IQ
to become really low. This may cause problems with their self-a stem especially
when they see that their grades are lower compared to their classmates. This
may lead to suicide because they feel they don’t fit in.
Thank you so much for your time, I appreciate your help and
hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Tanner Elkins
